General:
Northernmost rain forests of Neotropics running south from San Luis Potosi to Veracruz. Characteristically diverse and rich in orchids, epiphytes, lianas and broadleaf trees.
Special: Largest and most important fragments of tropical moist vegetation remaining in Mexico. Very high endemism of species.

Hot and humid - mean annual temperature 26°C
Annual precipitation in between 700 and 3000 mm
Fauna:
Many endemic reptiles and birds. In some regions following endangered species:
Spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi)
Jaguar (Panthera onca)
Kinkajou (Potos flavus)
Flora:
Estimated 2000 species of plants!
Dangers:

Settlements, agricultural pressure, poaching, major industrial development.
