Coastal areas of the Bahia de los Angeles are very arid and desolate -looking. However, the diversity of vacular plants in the region is unusually high. Islands and coastal areas of the Sea of Cortez are home to 695 vascular plant species, more than in any marine and insular property on the World Heritage List.
