SMOOTH -HEADED ALIGATOR LIZARD

Geographic range: Nearctic - Neotropical: From S Texas to S Mexico.

Physical characteristics: Medium -sized lizard (85 -135 mm) with a long prehensile tail, triangular, pointed head and short legs. Lateral fold present and easily visible. Ear opening visible. Background color of the body is brownish or grayish, with a V shaped markings on the back, starting at the neck and running down the whole length of the body and tail. Quadrangular scales on the back, granular on the sides of neck.

Food habits: Feeds mostly on insects.

Reproduction: Oviparous, breeding all year round. Typical clutch has 10 -30 eggs.

Behavior: Diurnal and arboreal.

Habitat: Pine - oak forest, tropical forest.
