MEXICAN LEAF FROG

Geographic range: Neotropical: Endemic to W Mexico. Found on Pacific slope form S Sonora to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

Physical characteristics: Quite a large tree frog (up to 10 cm SVL). Overall dorsal color is green with scattered white spots. Underbody is white. Legs and digits are often orange. Enlarged toes. Golden eyes, reticulated black. Females larger than males.

Food habits: Mainly insects.

Reproduction: Breeding form July through August. Possibly polyandric. Eggs glued to vegetation in a foamy mass, usually in places shaded from sun. Freshly hatched tadpoles are around 1cm long.

Behavior: Nocturnal arboreal frog. Day is spent in sheltered burrows, under stones or logs.

Habitat:
Semi-arid (sub)tropical forest of the Mexican lowlands along the Pacific coast.

Biomes: tropical and subtropical dry forest.
