Geographic range: Neotropic: Endemic to Mexico. Found on Pacific coastal lowlands from southern Sonora to Colima.

Physical characteristics: Large squirrel. Body slender, neck, ears and snout short. Hindfeet larger than forelimbs. Tail fluffy and longer than the body. Body gray above, white below.

Food habits: Herbivorous. Consumes mainly fruit and seeds (Spondias, Ficus spp., Brosimum, etc.)

Behavior: Diurnal and usually solitary. Mainly arboreal.

Reproduction: Nest constructed of leaves, or found in a tree cavity. Reproduction occurs during summer months. Gestation lasts 44 days, 1 - 5 offspring are born and are nursed for 8 -10 weeks.

Habitat: found in most forested vegetation types of the area (tropical deciduous forest, tropical semideciduous forest, plantations, etc)
