Geographic range: Neotropical: Endemic to SW Mexico. From C Michoacán and Morelos to Oaxaca.

Physical characteristics: Small flycatcher (13 -14 cm) with conspicuous spiky crest. Upper parts and head olive to grayish. Wings and tail darker. Two whitish bars are present on wings. Throat whitish.

Food habits: Feeds mostly on insects.

Reproduction: Nest is made of vegetable matter and cup -shaped. Usually placed low in bushes. Eggs are buff color, speckled red and brown or gray. Typical clutch 2 -3.

Behavior: Low to mid levels. Usually detected by voice. Jerking tail up.

Habitat:
Arid scrub to thorn forest, less attracted to open areas.
